Man, if you’ve ever been in Dtoids vent then you know how funny Ron is. I never really saw this one coming and I’m so pumped to see the dtoid + EG relationship. This may turn out to be the best show ever. I’m am so excited my nipples are on fire.

Well as there is no #106 comments to find, probably because the site wasn’t up at that time yet, and I just watched the episode I’d like to comment here on the SupCom review.
CTRL+V to unlock the camera; SPACE + mouse movement to adjust it the way you like; CTRL+V to lock it in that position.
Next, 57 seconds to build a bomber? How about building some engineers I’d recommend (5) and order them to assist the factory. So when the factory starts to build the shitty bomber, they all jump in and it will be done in 5 seconds. This is how the game actually plays. You have to build engineers to speed up build times. You can even assign your commander to help with building units.
Well maybe this was addressed by a caller, but in those videos I didn’t hear anyone clearing this out.
and Nukes are in the game, were in the demo.
So it’s really not a shitty game as it was said, altho it’s a resource hog.
BTW, while we are on the topic of SupCom, I had no idea that the engineers or the Commander can help speed up unit building. Why? BECAUSE THE GAME DOESN’T TELL YOU.
You can go on and on about RTFM or whatever, but unless things have changed in the main game (let me know), the tutorial is very poor. I do not want to waste my time downloading and watching a video on how to play the game. I rather it teach me how to play IN the game. That way I can see it first hand, rather than try to remember what the video said. I mean shit, I didn’t even know any of those control commands existed. You have a very poor game design if you have to rely on other player to tell you what most on the controls are.

Hey people, what’s with all the Wii hate anyway?
I’m personally not a Nintendo fanboy. I’ve been PC gaming since the 80286 days till today and never actually owned a console.
I bought the Wii, because I was getting tired of the same ol’ RPG/RTS/FPS crap that the PC developers kept feeding us and I must with all honesty say - I rarely had so much fun with a system or a game than I did with the Wii while just playing WiiSports with friends and Zelda: TP. For me, Zelda: TP is probably the best game I played in my long, long gaming career. Period.
I think that with Nintendo titles it’s about that pure gameplay fun experience and to be honest, I never had that feeling with PC games. They were fun, even adrenaline rushes (I will probably never forget my first Quake/QuakeWorld clan match - just wow), but I never actually had that pure fun/grin on my face while playing a game. It’s hard to describe, but those who expericened it, know what I mean.
I also find it funny when people comment on the WiiMote as being gimmicky although they don’t even own a Wii and have the chance to play it for a longer period of time. The WiiMote is as gimmicky as the developers make it. It was the same story with the DS, but look at it know - it’s a money printing machine.
Wii has lots of potential and I can see some fantastic and original games coming out for it in the future.
Hell, even if you just bought Wii to play Zelda:TP and Zelda Wii it was well worth the cash. Not to even mention Metroid Prime, Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Galaxy, Manhunt 2, No More Heroes etc…
As for the post-launch depression/lack of good games - that’s pretty standard for all the console launches. It’s the same with the PS3 at the moment. You have like 2 or 3 games and the rest is just meh.
So please - give it some time, it’s been only out for 3-4 months. I’m sure we will see some really great stuff for the Wii in the future. The first online games are also on the way and I for one can’t wait.
The Wii needs to fix its online strategy badly. Even though its not even out yet, this thing is going to turn into a disaster. I mean, take this quote for example.. from the Vice President of Marketing for Nintendo, Perrin Kaplan:
“Some of that friend code stuff is really built for the mass consumer, not just the gaming world.”
Do you honestly agree with this statement? The friend code system is the worst thing to happen to gaming since EA. There is no way that the average consumer is ever going to figure out how to use that thing. Unless Nintendo can somehow pull a lobby system with user names out of their ass or totally scrap the whole friend code system,its just going to fall by the wayside.
Ok this can be summed up pretty quickly:
Wii is garbage. Plain and simple, those of us who never liked the idea of flailing about to play on a system with lackluster storage capacity and chunky graphics.
I will say that the wii would be a good system if it wasn’t up against the 360 and PS3. I was awed for about a day that they had motion capture then I was like “is that it?” at a point even the most hardcore fanboy should admit that Wii can’t really stand up in this war long term. Eventually all these jazzed up “Wii-bowling” people are going to realize how foolish it is to put stock in games like this. There are only so many swords, arrows, baseball bats and hands a rational, and proper, gamer can take.
What matters to me most is the simple fact that Wii can’t hold as much as 360 and for sure PS3. Storage capacity on their discs respectively Wii= 4.7Gb 360=15gb and PS3=25gb. I think that having more game content, more items, more enemy’s and more cinemas is what ultimately will make the Wii show it’s age in a matter of months. If given the choice between more content for your money or less which would you choose?

While admittedly those games may turn out to be good what are the odds that the worst things about all of them will be the fact that “graphics aren’t up to snuff”, “controls are weak” or “performance problems”.
I’m just tired of all these small asain girls saying that obviously weaker systems are “winning” because they’re cheaper. If they were free, I know of no one who would choose Wii over either PS3 or 360. I couldn’t say which they’d choose, but I’m pretty confident it wouldn’t be Wii.
In the end it’s personal preference if you like wii play wii, be happy that you can, but don’t look for my 10000 digit friend code.
I think EG does a pretty good job of being unbias FTR.
I’m not saying it’s a perfect product. It has it’s flaws just like every gaming console or product out there.
I’m just saying don’t be so quick to abandon it after the first months, when the lifespan will probably be several years.
I mean, when I bought the Wii I knew exactly what I was getting performance wise and what kind of games I will be playing.
Do I wish they would release somekind of a demo or game lobby channel for better online gaming and support - sure. But call it garbage - no way.
I personally love it and have confidence it will only get better as time passes as will PS3.
You can’t compare coming titles for the Wii and the X-Box. The X-Box had much, much more time to prove itself as a viable system. So developers had more time to make things for it. More quality games.
I can, but only because the company’s Nintendo has had lined up since the 80’s knew they were going to have a system they were going to develop more. I really don’t think that once 100% of the wii’s capability has been tapped it will still be an inferior system to the one’s that are out as they are now.
Can you both admit that just the hardware is inferior to both systems. I mean, a Volkswagen with the best driver on the planet can beat a brand new Civic with the worst driver. By that I mean, games make a system, but systems shouldn’t be judged by their games alone.

Of course - the Wii has an inferior horsepower when compared to the 360 or PS3. There’s nothing new here - all the specifications were known for quite some time before Wii launched.
But you know what; if you bought the Wii for eye-candy high-tech graphics games, you were kinda missing the whole point.
The idea is to introduce some innovation into this stale and boring gaming industry, where developers make sequels upon sequels because it’s just economically less risky and more profitable. I want some fresh gameplay ideas, not hundreds of clones of Gears of War, C&C, Doom and whatnot. I’ve seen it all before and it’s crawling out of my ears and eye sockets.
It’s risky, but I think Nintendo delivered this one with the WiiRemote and so far I’m quite happy with the way I use for example the WiiRemote in Zelda to hack & slash monsters and big ass bosses. It instantly felt very intuitive and not gimmicky at all.
I also like how responsive for example the WiiMote actually is in Excite Truck. It only shows that the sensitivity and response of the WiiMote is only limited by developers and their programing skills and not by the technology itself. Bluetooth data transfer has some limitations, but for a gaming controller I think it works pretty well.
I had the chance to look at the advanced graphics library documentation of the Wii SDK (it recently leaked ;)) and there are chapters there for bump-mapping, environment mapping, full-shadow mapping, water effects and all of this mambo jumbo.
Why didn’t we see it in any Wii games yet? Because the developers a) suck, b) are lazy, c) haven’t yet figured out the way to use the programming APIs to it’s fullest potential.
I’m totally with Tr0n. I feel that lately the Wii has been getting browbeaten by the “hardcore” audience because of the comparison to the 360 and PS3. Sure, the 360 and PS3 have immense hardware power, but they both have issues with them too. I mentioned the comparison to the DS/PSP in the chat last night and someone shot me down immediately and called me a fanboy. That’s called Ad Hominem kids and it’s a shitty way to debate a topic.
Like the Wii to the 360/PS3, the DS had less graphical prowess than the PSP and included a unique way of interacting with the game. The PSP has built a niche, but the DS has dominated and because of this we’re seeing games being released that would never have been as entertaining on a previous Gameboy or the PSP (e.g. Cooking Mama, Hotel Dusk, etc.) Similarly, the Wii has this unique control scheme and it’s going to take a little time for developers to create new IPs or adapt old IPs to the new controller scheme. Right now everyone is disappointed in the “slapped-on” controller schemes of some games, and I agree with that sentiment as well, but these things take time for the reasons that Tr0n laid out above me.
I think all 3 consoles are awesome and I wish I had enough time and money to afford all three and the best games for each. Right now, I have the Wii, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. If you don’t, I’m ok with that. Just don’t make baseless accusations about how bad it is.
I think my main beef with the Wii are just the type of games that are coming out for it. I mean, if you like to play them, hey…. more power to you, but I think as EG has said, and other people have said, I am tired of seeing these “mini-game/party games” come out for the system. Maybe its just me because I don’t have friends over at my house every hour of the day but I don’t want to throw money at a system that is only going to be used when only a whole bunch of people are going to be playing it. I mean lets look at what has recently come out or will be coming out…

Anyway, I won’t bore you with more games. I mean these can be great when you and your buddies are over, but god damn it. Where are the damn single player games. I don’t wanna play these games that maybe last 2 minutes. I have played Zelda: TP and my Wii has just been sitting there.
Maybe its just one of those things where the Wii just isn’t for me. Maybe I should of just waited until some big names come out, but the way things are going. Devs are seeing where the big money is at for shit on the Wii (party games) and thats all we are getting. I hope that changes soon…
Well FatBaby, on the SupCom topic again, no game tells you exactly how everything works. You have F12 key while in the game to show you a full list of commands which you can use.
I wasn’t in beta, I wasn’t playing the tutorial, I just poped into the skirmish pressed F12, becasue the camera reallys sucked and searched for the key to change it. It took me less then 30 seconds to find it.
And putting engineers to assist build things is something taken from TA a game released way back, and as this game is it’s successor, so it should be known how to do it.
It’s was just a poor review and bashing the game for virtually no reason. As the main bad thing about this game was “The View Sucks!” & “To build the unit you can go on a coffee break!”, which simply isn’t true.
On the Wii, Xbox360, PS3 thing… I’d say Wii is fine as it is, it certainly isn’t my console of choice, but I understand why the majority of people like it, even though the novelty might fade someday.
The only game seeing me play on the Wii is the Metroid series as I’m a huge fan of those, but a single game wont justify the purchase. However I borrowed a friends GameCube last gen to play the Metroids and it worked well. I just might do it again this time.
On the Xbox360/PS3 thing, as I’m living in Europe I’d say go with the Xbox 360. It’s there, it has games. While the PS3 isn’t even out here and costs almost twice as much as in the states while being a downgraded product compared to the Playstation 3 released in NA/Japan.
All I have to say to Sony is, No thanks, keep us waiting half a year more then offering us a downgraded product for twice as much as the rest had to pay. GG Sony, speaking of digging your own hole.
@Fatbaby. I hear you on the lack of 1 player games, and I also hope that some of the games released this year will fill the void created by the release titles. But… I must ask how this is any different than the lack of titles in the spring after the 360 launch and, of course, the PS3 launch.

@bhive01. Well, the way I see it, I have gotten a whole lot of more use out of my PS3 than I have gotten my Wii. Even though I have only one game for the system (well maybe 3 if you want to count the downloadable games) I find my self going back for the online multiplayer ( I am talking about Resistance if you haven’t guessed).
It is what the Wii is severely lacking and it needs to be fixed soon. Having buddies come over is great and all, but its not so fun where you find your self the only one playing. With my buddies going to school or going to work, I get to maybe see them once every few months. Having the online multiplayer extends the games replay value, and you are able to play with friends who may not have the time to come over or what-not. I would love it if games like Mario Party or some other Wii game had online, but sadly, I don’t see that happening soon.
I guess its just one of those things that really matter depending on your situation. If you have alot of friends that are able to come over all the time, the Wii may be for you. If you don’t have friends that are able to visit all the time and you can maybe only see them online, the PS3 or 360 is for you.
To FatBoy - If you’d RTFM for SupCom, you’d see a very clear explanation and mention of the Engineer build Assist function at the top of Page 14. Furthermore on the back of the manual are listed all the camera controls.
I think it’s pretty sad that you need to blame the game for your illiteracy or frenzied need to jump in the game so quickly that you couldn’t take a few seconds to whip through the manual (which isn’t terribly long or arduous).
Check your facts next time before griping about something…

I actually hope that someone who’s a huge fan of SupCom will do a user submitted review to shut up all the haters :)
Well Marcus :) Your review of the SupCom was crap lets leave it at that. You didn’t bother to read the packed in readme.txt or press the F12 to see a list of commands. If you’d do it, at least your “THIS VIEW IS TOTAL SHIT FOR AN RTS” comment would’ve been resloved, and this took me as said less as 30 seconds to find. :)
You didn’t get a tutorial how to bunnyhop in Quake either, now does this makes the game shit, I doubt it :).

I was pumped about Supreme Commander. I decided to try it for myself, figuring that it couldn’t be “that bad.” Boy, was I wrong. It is not a game, it is more of a chore. Shame on Gas Powered Games trying to pass off that electronic abortion as a “game.” If you are a huge RTS whore, it could be considered average. My main beef with it is that there is NO new gameplay innovations. The ‘world view’ scrolling in and out is a great idea, I’ve wanted to do that for a LONG time, but the implementation was horrid.
Fatbaby is right about the tutorial totally sucking. There is no excuse for that.
Granted, my machine couldn’t pump the graphics all the way up, but it wouldn’t matter anyways, because you spend most of the time zoomed all the way out. If I wanted that, I’d play Risk or Fracas. The base building sucks. You gotta make hundreds of power generators and mass extractors to do anything. If I wanted to spend my time doing that, I’d play a great game called Sim City. Wonder if the Gas Powered Games folks have heard of it before?
If you want a good RTS, play Company of Heroes or Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Supreme Commander has nothing new to offer. If there wasn’t such a huge hype for it, it wouldn’t have been THAT big of a letdown. Would have been another generic RTS with no gameplay innovations to speak of. I figure the Dev’s realized their game totally sucked, so they tried to hype it up as much as possible, so people woud buy it. Shame on them for releasing another bland RTS into the genre. That game makes me mad just thinking about it…

I clearly said that IN THE DEMO of SupCom, there is NO explanation of how the units work. You start a mission and its like “ok build a bomber.” 5 minutes later “oh I see the bomber is now finished and so I am with this weak ass game”
Maybe if the game.. or should I say DEMO, gave a half way decent tutorial I could maybe give the game a chance. Instead I spend more time wondering what the fuck any of the units do or what fuck the important controls are.
Have things changed in the retail version of the game? Better tutorial? I would love to see a user review.

I was playing this game for about a day on my friends PC and I was just unimpressed. I think they need to work on some issues before I would give it props over games like WC3 or heaven forbid SC.

Didn’t mean to munk up your name but your point is still really weak. So what if the demo wasn’t as fully-featured as you needed it to be - it’s a frikkin’ demo. In the full retail release there’s a clear and accurate manual for you to read along with a cheat sheet of units and build queues.
It’s sad when gamers have to have their hands held to such an exreme or they’ll wrack on a game. Why should the devs suffer because you’re not sophisticated enough or intelligent enough to know how to play a particular type of game? I’m not saying that SupCom is necessarily light-hearted easy fare but just because you couldn’t figure it out doesn’t mean the game is crappy at all.
Also, it’s definitely no Dawn of War or Company of Heroes but it’s still a very good RTS with several nifty innovations that clearly yourself and RatBeggar failed to grasp. Your loss I guess. March will bring some mass-market RTS fun for you two in the form of C&C 3 so hopefully that’ll fit the bill for you both much better.

I’m really trying to respect your opinion, but you make it hard brotha. C&C3 Looks amazing, everything I’ve seen from it looks good.
I was hoping SupCom would be ”’decent”’ enough to occupy my my time so that I wouldn’t have to buy another game until 300 and God of War 2. The fact that I went out and wasted money for games I’m only going to play for 2 weeks shows how bad this game is. If you want to play it fine, but don’t come on and flame Fatbaby because it’s a crap game.
Zooming in an RTS, my nuts, you should look for that feature in Starcraft 2.
Thats just my point… its a demo. It is a demonstration of what the final game is. It is a way for them to sell their product to me and they should do everything they can to make that sale. If I play a demo and I don’t find it to my liking, then I am not going to buy it. Its not to say other people wouldn’t enjoy it, but in my eyes, they have lost a customer. I don’t want to spend money on a retail game if I did not enjoy the demo. To me, and like I just said, a demo equals what the final build of the game is, and if that is poor, then the game is poor.
I really don’t wanna here “oh well in the final game, they do this” or “in the final game they do that.” I shouldn’t have to throw money at a game and hope that it works out in the end. If you like the game, hey… thats great, but don’t you dare say that I am wrong in my judgment. A quality game should have a quality demo… its not that hard… I have played many demos where I have gone right out and bought the game after playing it. Sadly… SupCom isn’t one of them.
Lets just hope the C&C3 demo is better.
It will just be another upgraded and pimped out C&C.

Great points baby, I agree. You don’t see FEAR on my list because I hated the demo. There are many more that I just choose to forget, but I agree that if the demo’s bad I’m out.
