   Rance, pro gaming hasn’t been ready to bust out until recently, in the past 5-6 years.

   You mentioned 10 years when asked about pro gaming or whatever, so just giving my opinion.

   This is coming from a competitive gamers point of view.

   Nice article, not overbalanced one way or the other, just telling it like it is. Only thing that stuck out was the 16 to 21 twitch gaming lifespan quote. Is there any research on that?

   Well from a korean starcraft standpoint the best players have been very early 20s when at their prime. I know the koreans did a study on some of them and plotted speed decline both physically and mentally over time - Theres a documentary WCG that follows Xellos who rapidly deteriorated with age

    @PR: Tell 5 years to the guys playing the stand-up arcade games and theyll whup your ass dood.

    Gaming has been around much longer than your xbox homey.

    Also, there are a few CS players that are in their late 20s but for the most part people start ‘getting lives’ and ‘moving on’ to other things around the age of 21 … And yes, you rapidly get worse at games once you pass the age of beginning to drink guys… use ur heads !!! LOLZ

    Yeah Kennigit, but that’s more of a guideline and not a requirement. I mean look at some of the older players, and look at Garimto coming back at 27 to play in proleague.

    Plus, Xellos isn’t doing half bad this MSL, ro8 beating Canata.. he’ll lose to Nal_ra but still, it’s the effort that counts, right?

    The only DoA player I know from Scandinavia is Skatan Milla, I thought he played hitomi as a main though..

    I think that people mentally deteriorate past 21. Your mind is still growing before then so you can reassign operations to different tasks and strategies, but once your mind is grown it’s stuck. Older players who compete have experience and reason on their side, but they have no twitch.

    Older players may be more crafty but thats cause they HAVE to given the fact that they have worse reflexes than a youngin

    nice segment. wheat sounds really professional in bite size pieces with editing haha :) rance you showed great input too. very TV worthy imo.

    as for the segment itself, i don’t know much about offbeatninja. i knew he’s an impressive player though, just from some CGS coverage. he did seem cocky at the start of the segment, and i got the feeling that that would probably be his undoing, as it is for soooo many top gamers. but then some guy said he’s like the roger federer of the game so i assumed it was warranted. then suddenly he’s wham out of the WCG and still in the state of mind of an untouchable, despite being 2-0ed. getting to the top is one thing, staying there is a whole different ball game.

    WCG mad ethe mistake of being single elim.

    thats why he was out so quick.

    DOA matches were decided in best of 3 sets… most games were over in 5 minutes, including the grand final.

    Thats why offbeat was out IMO. That and theres alot of parity in DOA
