Poor sales for Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3

   They need to rename this Generic FPS III. Get it guys, it is coming soon to the PC and PS3!

   This game is more of a benchmark than a FPS. It is VERY dumbed down compared to all other versions. To be quite frank I felt like I was playing the fucking console demo version. Sure it probably looks fantastic with graphics turned up, but guess what, the gameplay sucks.

   I DLed this with a hardon, I LOVE Unreal, but this “beta demo” sucks.

   It is slow. The flak and rockets are way too sluggish. The bio rifle’s goop pile is enormous. The voice taunts are annoying.

   I almost feel alienated playing this game after playing all the other UT games. I was anxiously waiting for this to finish installing and after 5minutes I yawned. Sorry just telling it like it is. My heart has been broken, Epic Games.

   IT ISN’T THAT PEOPLE AREN’T INTERESTED IN PC GAMING - It is that they need to make games people can actually run, which also don’t suck.

   A fantastic example of this is COD4 for the PC. VERY dated computers can run this game, and guess what, it still looks great. The dozens of people I still keep in touch with from UT2k4 and before that haven’t even bought UT3 because it is a bad game. Most of them can run it properly.

   I agree with the comment above. CoD4 is an example of this. The fact is that PC gamers are more educated and responsible with their purchases. UT3, sadly, is bad. They tried to “change” things up and failed miserably. Changing this like disabling weapon toss because chucking your weapon to gain ammo from a weapon pick up is and “exploit” is ridiculous. If you want to curve the ammo generation from a weapon pick up then start everybody with some stock ammo (The ammo that would be gained from a weapon pick up) and give no ammo when you actually do pick up the weapon. It’s not that hard and we’ll still be able to share weapons with teammates.

   And the killer is that epic talked about ways that the game could be changed up in the “story”; however never followed through with any of these changes. For instance they talked about expiring your opponents respawner in team deathmatch; however the score still counts up (???). They could have mixed it up by having the score count down as well as degenerate over time to create a time limit. There are even more alternate ways hinted on in the story, but the design never picked up on.

   If there is any light on epic is that I just played through Gears of War and am looking forward to competing in CEVO with it. Granted having to pay money to play on a P2P connection for Games for Windows is bullshit, but the gameplay is fresh and solid. I’ve been wanting to play that kind of game on a keyboard and mouse online since Kill.Switch.

   Thing is Crysis was made as a demo for a game engine that’s supposed to be here for another 4-5 years and UT3 wasn’t made by the previous Unreal team, Gears of War was. It’s not a surprise that people aren’t buying Crysis because their rigs won’t run it and UT3 tastes a little stale.

   Also where are you getting your numbers from? If it’s NPS then that is only North American RETAIL sales. For instance my purchase of UT3 from Direct2Drive would not be included in those figures which Epic advertised to buy from in the demo. Although if your pulling them from a source like VGChartz that would be units sold from the publisher to the distributor; however I would expect those numbers to be a lot higher if that was the case.

   I see UT3 selling poorly because it isn’t the least bit impressive.

   But what the fuck… Crysis? I love that game and I know lots of people that play it, I got it after trying the demo and I have no regrets.

   So what you are saying is that since 2 games didn’t sell well, that means that PC gaming is dieing? Crysis sucks (for me) and it takes a lot of good hardware to support it. UT3 just plain out sucks. So by your standards you mean the PS3 is dieing? (As of right now I believe that) Just because Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted isn’t selling?

   Even though I know one of the reasons those PS3 games aren’t selling that well is because not that many people have a PS3, thats just my opinion.

   But yeah, I do agree with you all on the show. If the same game comes out on PC and consoles I usually get the console version mainly because my PC is out of date and I don’t want to buy a video card that costs as much as a console to play it.

   Man playing PC games nowdays is kinda pointless. I’m a PC gamer and a console gamer. But I think I play more PC games than I do with consoles. Problem is, You’ll never have the best experience when playing a PC game, because there will be always something wrong with your PC, wheather its Video card, Processor, sound card issues, etc. While when you get a game for a Console PS3/xbox360, you know that you’ll get the maximum out of your game and you don’t need to worry about the system requirements, I mean well………….

   one more thing that is not helping PC gaming at the moment is that current gen consoles are out preforming most of the PCs out there ( as a whole package ).

   Another thing is the rediculous price of Video cards, If i want to buy a Video card it will be the 8800 GTX otherwise I know that I’m wasting my money. Now looking at the 8800 GTX price how much it costs? like $500!!! which is expensive considering you can get a PS3/360 with less money and remember that with less money you’ll be buying a whole system including ( hard drive, processors. video card, controllers )
   that’s a big deal…….

   I think PC gaming will go downhill for the next 2-3 years. By then, mid PC specs will be equal to the specs of the current gen consoles and we will see a much better games released on PCs only which current gen consoles won’t handle.

   I think Nvidia or ATI can help rescuing PC gaming but I don’t see them taking risks. They can sell their video cards for like 60-100 USD and then game sales will help making their business beneficial for either ATI or Nvidia, just like what Sony and Microsoft are doing with their consoles.

   You guys think too much

   Is PC gaming dying? Not a chance, but of course their market is being shared now with consoles, so their part is smaller since every title seem to appear on xbox and ps3.

   Does those two games represent a significant change? For crysis, no because of the very heavy and beautiful CryEngine2. It was easy to be informed that the game was too heavy for any config to be run over 30 fps.

   For UT3, well people seem to say it sucks, but the main reason it hasn’t sold that much is part of the same reason with Crysis and other part that CoD 4 ate a bit the competition in the genre of FPS and UT3 doesn’t bring anything new in particular other than prettier graphics.

   How exactly can you not notice the striking similarities in UT3 from the ORIGINAL UT 99? They went back to where they started, and it works.

   Granted, the UI is a total joke (but isnt it in all Unreal games on release?) and the single player campaign is shit, but the actual multiplayer gameplay is immense.

   I reckon that most of the people that cry and moan about how bad UT3 is are the ones that get completely owned for 30 minutes then decide the game sucks because they can’t play it, or even worse, the UT2k4 fanboys that have come over to try it out, realise that just because they played UT2k4 for three years doesn’t mean they will instantly be good at UT3, then bitch and whine because the game isnt the way they want it to be and isnt just 2k4 with better graphics.

   I have met a lot of players from UT99 who are enjoying UT3 because in many ways it is similar, and also a lot of 2k4 players who honestly completely SUCK ASS at UT3 then cry and quit the game forever.

   About the sales figures: I find this saddening because I am a hardcore PC fanboy (dont even have a console and the only one I ever had was PS2 with about three games), and it is obvious that the future of gaming lies with consoles, at least in the short term.

   F1, buying a $500 8800GTX now is pretty dumb, since you can get a 8800GT that performs just as well for less then half the money..

   And sure the Xbox 360 and PS3 outperform most people’s PC outthere, but they surely don’t outperform my PC, which is not even that super highend anymore (Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB, 8800 GTS 320MB).. I know because I have a Xbox 360 aswell running on the same 22″ monitor, so I can compare.. My PC can run the same games at higher resolution and more AA/AF, so looks better then on the Xbox 360 (and PS3, because that looks the same as the Xbox 360)..

   We’ve heard these stories of PC gaming dying over & over, especially when (relative) new gameconsoles are available, yet many years on PC gaming still exists.. And I’m sure it won’t go away anytime soon, because their will always be a market for truely high-end gaming.. Also not everybody wants to be limited by DRM and closed systems like the consoles are, PC offers a lot more freedom.. I enjoy my Xbox 360 mainly for racinggames and sportgames etc, my PC is for FPS and RTS games.. One thing I hate about the Xbox 360 though is the fact MS wants to see money for everything, from online gaming down to the smallest piece of DLC (gamerpics etc), it’s rediculous.. At least PC offers way more extra content and freedom, and it’s all free..

   And yeah, UT3 plays like UT99, but now with uptodate graphics.. I think sales are slow because there’s just a lot of competition outthere now, and I think most people choose others games over a new UT.. Other new games like CoD4 and TF2 etc show PC (FPS) gaming is still going as strong as ever.. The days everybody played pure-DM games like Quake, Half-Life or UT, because there were no other FPS games arround are over..

    People are interested in PC gaming.
    People aren’t interested in $6000 rigs to be doing this PC gaming on.

    When the PC market gets a little more specs realistic then people might buy Crysis and UT3. They’re too much, too soon.

    personally didn’t like UT3 in comparison to ut2k4, movement felt less fluid, I enjoyed the sensation of dodge jumping in 2k4, not so on board with the erratic half second jumps of ut3.

    haven’t tried crysis because I was more interested in CoD4 and haven’t got the cash to buy food/alcohol as well as multiple games. I’m not at all dissapointed with my prioritisation of cod4, it’s brilliant.

    The reason is that people can’t afford the new machines.
    I don’t have a dual core computer or anything like that so I cant play the game with decent FPS. When the computers/consoles drop in price the sales will go up.

    Here’s 2 reasons why Crysis and UT3 sales have been horribly disappointing…

    1. As Shifter stated, many PC gamers CANNOT afford new hardware… as in.. a brand new gaming computer. Let alone, they cannot afford the high-priced video cards these days.

    2. World of WarCraft is destroying PC gaming from other games. Computers are no longer PC’s… they are now known as WoW Machines, instead of Naked Lady Machines.

    I ran Crysis demo on medium with normal fps, on my budget OC rig from this summer. The gameplay was fun, and the only reason I didn’t buy it is because the multiplayer is rather bland, and I don’t do PvE.
    I think people cried too much about its FPS problems. No one forces you to set it to high.

    They should have just renamed ‘medium’ to ‘very high’ and sold gimped copies of the game. Then distributed an optional unlock patch for ‘ultra high’ for those that care to try it. Less bad press.

    People should talk about how great the actual game is, with the immersion and attention to detail.

    It really only loses to CoD4 because Multiplayer is everything.

    nflatable, I don’t think 8800 GT performs as well as a 8800 GTX, just by looking at the most reliable source of information on the internet, I do see differences between the two versions.

    I have a quad core not a dual core.. and I have 4 GB DDR2, a decent motherboard and 2 Sata hard drives that run on Raid2. the problem is with my Video card. If you don’t have a decent card that is much more expensive than the current gen consoles you won’t be able to play good games. My 8500 GT won’t do it for me and The GT version of the 8800 isn’t that good either. Maybe it’s good now but it won’t be as good 1-2 years later. Another problem is that there will be new DX10 cards that support new features of DX10 which will be called DX10.1 cards or whatever and then you’ll have the DX10.2 and so on. No matter what u buy now, you’ll need to keep updating your reg continuously to be able to play the best games on maximum settings, which i find annoying. You don’t need to deal with this headache with consoles, all you care about is buying games, not looking at the minimum system specs. That’s the bottom line.

    Does that mean I won’t be gaming on PC? hell no. I know PC games offer more rich experience ( with the right reg ). PC games offer much better online games with the dedicated servers. But I’m just waiting for new cards to be released and current cards price to drop. I’m also waiting for some more DX10 games.

    HA! and HA! again. The developers got what they deserved! Crysis and UT2K7 are excellent examples of how gaming is going down the tubes, at least for the PC. People are so concerned with making everything look pretty and fantastic that they forget that nobody wants to sell an arm and a leg and their pet dog just to play their game. I’m personally sick and tired of getting a new computer or graphics card or whatever and then less than a year later something like this comes out and I feel like I just wasted my money cause I can’t play it. Crysis and Unreals developers can go suck an egg >_>

    Adding my 10 cents…

    With consoles you have the same problem. At the moment the console is made its hardware will not change. The console will always be DX9 or DX10 or whatever the console equivalent is. So that argument you gave is pointless. And all DX10.x games are DX9 compatible anyway.

    As for the 8800GT it is a very good card for its price. And it will preform very well. With a 8800GT you can keep playing with a level of graphics thats very nice for a year or even two for sure. Considering that PC games are going forward all the time. What I mean by this is PC games are evolving along with new tech out there. As for console games they are limited with the hardware of the consoles(until a next gen of consoles comes out with new hardware). So big leaps in graphics are unlikely compared to what is out. That is of course if the current games are using nearly all what the graphics department of the consoles have to give.

    Don’t forget that the HD tv’s are not cheap. And with the current gen consoles a good tv is a must.
    Also the results of these two games in no way means that PC gaming is gonna die.

    And to defend UT3, most of the oldskool UT99 players actually LOVE it !
    at least they think its ALOT better than UT2k3/2k4 and most of them start playing after the expensive hollidays when the cash flow is back again :)

    And for the console part: i can understand why most of the players are kinda turning over to the consoles sinds all the hazzle and stuff you get with PC games but guess what “its always been like this” i dont think the market of PC games is getting smaller at all.

    The consoles have always been there and its just more suitable for the masses and since the gaming market is growing and growing the market is just getting bigger and thats mostly for consoles since its just the easiest way to get into.

    I also really love to play games on my console as much as i do on my PC but some games just need to be played on the PC to make it most playable….
    for example: im sure im getting old but with games like UT3 i just need to scale down the eyecandy a bit since they kinda hurt my eyes :) which is not really possible on a console (correct me if im wrong).

    Anyway, sorry for my fucked up english but just read some facts first and dont believe everything someone else says (even if its an online/tv show).

    As much as i love to watch it myself everyday :)
